History of the Tokyo Stock Exchange:
TSE was established on 15 May 1878, as the Tokyo Kabushiki Torihikijo under the direction of
that time’s finance minister Okuma Shingenobu and capitalist Shibusawa Elichi.
In TSE, Trading started on 1 June 1878.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange was combined with ten other stock
exchanges in the major cities of Japan to form A single Japanese Stock Exchange
in 1943. After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Tokyo Stock Exchange
was shut down and reorganized in a short time.
On May 16, 1949, the Tokyo Stock Exchange reopened under
its current Japanese name, towards its new Securities Exchange Act.
From 1983 to 1990 the TSE’s run-up was extraordinary. It
accounted for more than 60% of the world’s stock market capitalization in 1990,
before TSE falling rashly in value and from rank 1 to rank 4 in the world’s
stock exchange by market capitalization.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange recognized itself as a Stock
Exchange in 2001, before this time, the Tokyo Stock Exchange was known as an
incorporated association.
On 1 November 2005, The Tokyo Stock Exchange was able to
operate only 90 minutes, due to some internal fault and bugs of the newly
installed transaction system. On this day trading was suspended for four and a
half hours. It reported as the worst day in the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s history.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange’s index Nikkei 225 fell 2.8% on
17 January 2006, it was the faster drop in the last nine months. It drops occur
because of only one reason that the wake of a raid by prosecutors on Livedoor,
which was an internet company. Due to threatening of trade volume exceeding
limit the Tokyo Stock Exchange was closed on 18 January 2006.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange’s normal trading
sessions are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on
the Japan timing.
