History of Asian Paints:


The company was started in a garage in Gaiwadi, Mumbai by four friends Chimanlal Choksey, Champaklal Choksey, Suryakant Dani, and Arvind Vakil. During world war-2 and Quit  India movement of 1942, a temporary ban on paints imports except for only foreign companies and Shalimar paints. Then Asian paints came into the market.

In 1952, Asian Paints reported annual 23 crore rupees turnover but wit only 2% PBT margin. Asian Paints became the leading paint manufacturer company in 1967.

The four friend family held Asian Paints majority share together. But when the company expanded beyond India in the 1990s then dispute start over. In disputes result, Choksey sold its 13.7% shares in 1997. In 1997 Champaklal died and then his son Atul took over his share. As of the year 2008 Choksey, Vaki, and Dani families hold 47.61% share of Asian Paints.

Asian Paints manufactures paints in the category of Decorative, Automative and Industrial segment. Apart from these the Asian Paints also manufactures various Accessories like, Wall Primer, Wood Primer, Putty and Steiner’s etc.

2. Network:


Asian Paints was established in 1942 and today it’s not only India’s but Asia’s largest paint company. Now, Asian Paints operates in 17 different countries and has 25 paint manufacturing facilities in the world servicing consumers in more than 65 countries.

Now, Asian Paints operates in 5 regions across the world viz. South Asia, South East Asia, South Pacific, Middle East, and the Caribbean region. Asian Paints operates through the five corporate brands viz. Asian Paints, Berger International, SCIB Paints, Apco Coatings, and Taubmans.

In 10 markets, it operates through its subsidiary, Berger International Limited; in 5 markets in the South Pacific it operates through Apco Coatings; in Egypt, through SCIB Paints and in Fiji and Samoa it also operates through Taubmans.

Asian Paints is having its strategically located Indian plants at Bhandup (Maharashtra), Ankleshwar (Gujarat), Patancheru (Andhra Pradesh), Kasna (Uttar Pradesh), Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu)  and   Rohtak (Haryana).

Asian Paints is having state of the art supply chain system using cutting edge technology to integrate all its plants, regional distribution centers, outside processing Centres, and branches in India. Asian Paints having 2 chemical plants, 18 processing Centre, 350 raw material and intermediate goods suppliers, 140 packing material vendors, 6 regional distribution Centres, 72 depots are integrated.
